About Patras

A settlement can be dated back at least 4,000 years where the centre of modern day Patras now stands. However, despite this ancient heritage, Patras is very much a modern city: it was the first city in Greece to introduce electric trams and was named European Capital of Culture in 2006.

Patras Port

Patras is one of the biggest cities in Greece and as a result is a major transport hub for people coming into and leaving Greece. Ferries from Patras, Greece's "Gateway to the West", sail to Ancona, Bari, Brindisi, Trieste, Venice and Igoumenitsa and the islands of Corfu and Kefalonia in Greece. All ferries can be booked online through AFerry.

Patras port facilities

Patras is a huge port and it goes without saying that there are plenty of facilities to go around, including shops, cafes, restaurants, toilets and lots of blissful air conditioning.

Getting to Patras

There are great road connections to cities all across Greece, including Athens. There is also a choice of narrow guage railway connections with the major cities, which represents an interesting way to travel into Patras. The less adventurous may prefer to take the bus, and there is a large bus station near the port.
